Kullamaa Church Organ – Aivar Sõerd

Aivar Sõerd has been a civil servant, currently a politician and a member of the XV composition of the Riigikogu.
He graduated from the University of Tartu in 1990 and in 2018 from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater with a master’s degree in music interpretation.
He has worked as an organist in Nõmme Lunastaja church, performed at concerts, music festivals and organ half-hours

The Kullamaa church was chosen as the recording location primarily because the church and the organ have a special place in Estonian cultural history. The Kullamaa church organ is related to the composer and organist Rudolf Tobias. Kullamaa cemetery is also the last resting place of the composer. The great desire was to record music on the organ of Kullamaa church. Rubolf Tobias has played a lot on this instrument and also given concerts. The historic instrument, made by organ master Carl Tanton, is in good technical condition, sounds free and powerful. A year before the recording, there was also the opportunity to perform in Kullamaa Church, when 12 chorale preludes by Rudolf Tobias were performed by various organists.
